A native of Canton, Connecticut, Mr. Simonds was a Civil War veteran who returned to Hartford after graduating from Yale Law School. During his distinguished career, he authored a number of books, represented Connecticut in the Fifty-First Congress and served as the Commissioner of Patents from 1891 to 1893.
